Success for Channel Islands Hotels in Travel Trade Awards

An employee who worked tirelessly in the mud to tackle a major flood and a Jersey hotel’s island-wide fundraising during its centenary year are two of the winners in an inaugural travel trade awards.

A number of hotels in Jersey and Guernsey have scooped an award for going above and beyond in an awards scheme by tour operator Premier Holidays.

The travel company, which has an office near Jersey airport, launched its first Premier Holidays Partner Awards earlier this year to recognise and reward establishments in the Channel Islands who provide something unique, offer exceptional customer service or have helped promote the islands.

The winners are:

Outstanding Contribution Award: Daniela Corasaniti, sales manager at Longueville Manor, Jersey. Since joining in 2010, Daniela has gone above and beyond in her duties, including getting stuck into dealing with a major flood at the hotel in 2015, which saw her work tirelessly in the mud for hours. She also took on the lead of dealing with the insurance claim and the delicate rehoming of guests.

Best Cuisine Award: The Atlantic, Jersey; its exceptional fine dining restaurant ranks it as one of the best in the British Isles. In 2015, The Atlantic launched the annual Eat Jersey Food Festival to showcase the finest Jersey produce with leading chefs, which has attracted nationwide media exposure and increased visitors to the island out of season.

Most Unique Product Award: Bella Luce, Guernsey; the hotel’s unique Wheadon’s gin, which is produced on site, is available in over 70 bars and restaurants in the Channel Islands. The distillery is now a tourist attraction in its own right, with 30 cruise ships been booked in for gin tastings in 2017. The hotel holds gin tastings every night for guests and visitors to Guernsey.

Community Award: Ommaroo Hotel, Jersey; in 2016 the family-run hotel marked its centenary year with a number of fundraising events to support local charities including Autism Jersey and ABF Soldiers Charity. This year, it has continued to raise money for worthwhile charities including for Mind Jersey, as well as supporting community fundraisers by providing raffle prizes.

Renford Sargent, Premier Holiday’s chairman, said: “Our winners stood out to our panel of judges for many reasons, and we are pleased to recognise them for their achievements. Partnerships are incredibly important to Premier, and over the years we have established excellent relations with all our partners in the Channel Islands. These awards are another way for us to strengthen and celebrate those partnerships.”

The winners will be presented with an award to mark their success later this year, and Ommaroo Hotel will also receive a donation on behalf of Premier Holidays towards its fundraising.
