The 2024 British Rowing Offshore Championships is set to make waves in Jersey.
Publish date: 27 Mar 2024
On 01 and 02 June this year, the British Rowing Offshore Championships will be hosted at St. Aubin’s Bay, Jersey, where hundreds of coastal rowers from around the UK will battle for the title of British Champion. Entries for this year’s Championships will open on 8 April 2024.
Coastal rowing is the ultimate endurance sport, with athletes combatting physical and mental challenges as they navigate across 4km and 6km courses. Commonly dubbed river rowing’s ‘wilder cousin’, the British Rowing Offshore Championships promise to showcase the unpredictable nature of racing at sea.
Last year’s Championships saw 33 clubs from across the UK taking part with 22 clinching medals, some crewed by former GB Rowing Team athletes and Olympians.
2024 holds significant milestones for the British Rowing Offshore Championships as this will be the first time Jersey will host a national-level rowing event. This competition will also mark the first year the Championships will be held as an event in its own right, previously hosted as a combined event alongside the British Rowing Beach Sprint Championships, an adrenaline-fueled 500m racing format recently appointed to the roster for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
Anticipation is high among the Organising Committee, as reflected by committee chair Sarah Gregory who said, “we are so excited to be coming to Jersey for this year’s Championships at St. Aubin’s Bay, we’re ready to welcome competitors from all around the UK which should provide for some exciting racing.”
