Fun-packed ‘Discovery Days’ return with Jersey Heritage

Publish date: 16 Mar 2023

There is lots of fun to be had with Jersey Heritage this year with a new series of ‘Discovery Days’ for families to enjoy.

The special activity days will take place at different heritage sites throughout the year and are aimed at children up to the age of 10 years old, who will have an opportunity to explore the Island’s history through storytelling, arts and crafts, trails and dressing up.

The first event takes place on Saturday, 25 March at the Maritime Museum and is called ‘Discover Sailors’. Families can chart their ship’s log as they take a voyage around the Museum, dress up as a sailor and learn about the dangers of life at sea. There will also be storytelling, maritime-themed crafts, a chance to play Battleships and also learn about knot tying with the Jersey Sea Cadets.

Carmella Knight, Events Curator, said: “Our special ‘Discovery Days’ are all about having lots of fun while exploring the Island’s incredible history. These educational events are aimed at families with primary school-aged children and we will be highlighting some of the best stories that Jersey has to offer, including those about archaeology, food and dragons. There is also a day at the beach and we’re finishing with a suitably festive ‘Discovery Day’ in December. The events are open to everyone and we hope lots of families come and join us as we use crafts, storytelling, dressing up and much more to share the Island’s history with young Islanders. Our Education Team will be on hand at each Discovery Day to help families learn more, handle objects and find out fun facts.”

The ‘Discovery Days’ are in addition to the Jersey Heritage family events that are held during the school holidays, such as ‘Vikings’ during February half term and ‘A Summer of Fun’ during the summer holidays, as well as community events, such as La Fête du R’nouvé and La Fâis’sie d’Cidre.
Normal entry fees apply. Free for Jersey Heritage Members and children under the age of six. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
