Walk free, feel alive with Walk in the Park this May

Publish date: 23 Apr 2025

The Jersey National Park invites you to move beyond the familiar – to walk new paths, see with new eyes, and feel what it means to be truly free, with this year’s Walk in the Park.

Coinciding with the 80th anniversary of Liberation in May, this year’s programme explores the enduring importance of freedom: to move, to explore, to imagine, and to reconnect with the places and stories that shape our Island life.

This year’s theme, ‘Walk free. Feel alive’, is brought to life through 20 expert-led walks, each carefully curated to explore freedom in different forms, each offering a different way to experience the Park, from quiet moments of reflection to bold new perspectives. The walks are shaped around four central themes:

  • History & Reflection – walking through the past to understand the present and future
  • Movement & Exploration – embracing new perspectives and horizons
  • Wellbeing & Connection – restoring balance through nature
  • Expression & Creativity – seeing the world differently through art, story and imagination

From uncovering the hidden stories of Jersey’s wartime past, to barefoot walks along the sand, to stargazing under the dark skies of St Ouen’s Bay, this year’s programme encourages new ways to experience nature, history, and a deeper connection to place. Walks range from expert-led explorations and creative collaborations to quiet, mindful moments – each one offering a different lens through which to explore freedom.

Walks are being provided from a selection of the Park’s partners, including Anneville Farm, An Island Chef, ArtHouse Jersey, BAM Perspectives, Birding Tours Jersey, Boarder and Binney, Jersey Uncovered, Jersey Walk Adventures, Move Well, Ocean Culture Life, Société Jersiaise, the Government of Jersey’s Natural Environment Department, The Intrepid 232 Crew, The Island Yoga Project, The National Trust for Jersey, Trail Monkey Jersey and Wild Days Wilderness School.

Participants can join an expert-led experience or explore independently, with a series of self-guided routes also available at jerseynationalpark.com. Booking for guided walks is now open, with limited spaces. Tickets are priced at £5 for adults, with free entry for under-18s.

Mike Stentiford MBE, a founding figure in Jersey’s conservation story, said: “Freedom is at the very heart of this year’s Walk in the Park. In an ever-changing world, the simple act of walking in nature reminds us of what remains constant – the connection between people, place and meaning.”

He continued: “Marking 80 years since Liberation, the programme offers moments to walk more thoughtfully, to reflect on the stories held in the landscape, and to value the perspectives they offer.”

Leonie Hervé, Communications and Engagement Manager for the Jersey National Park, said: “This year, Walk in the Park is about recognising the simple freedoms we often overlook. The campaign is about choosing your own path, seeing things differently, and reconnecting with what really matters. The programme has been designed to be broad and inclusive; whether you’re after challenge or simply stillness, it has something for everyone.”

She added: “We hope the walks aren’t just memorable, but meaningful. That they spark conversation, shift perspective, and deepen our connection to this Island we call home.”

Walkers are kindly reminded to respect the Park’s wildlife, landscapes, and heritage by following the Jersey Countryside Code, ensuring that the Park’s beauty is preserved for future generations.
