It will officially be summer, in astronomical terms at least, in a few weeks when the sun is at its highest point in the northern hemisphere. This year, the Sunset Concerts will be taking place on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th June and attendees are once again invited to bring a picnic and enjoy fantastic live music in the beautiful setting of Grantez overlooking St. Ouen’s Bay to watch the sun setting over the bay.
Organised by The National Trust for Jersey, in partnership with the Jersey Opera House, all proceeds from the concerts go towards the Trust’s Coastline campaign – a campaign to save areas of Jersey’s coastline.
Andy Eagle, Theatre Director of the Jersey Opera House said, “during our refurbishment, the Jersey Opera House remains active through our offsite productions. We are delighted to partner with The National Trust for Jersey for the Sunset Concerts, supporting the important work of preserving Jersey’s coastline. This collaboration allows us to continue bringing quality arts to the community while contributing to a significant cause.”
Friday’s concert features Sydney Haskins – a young soprano singer who won the PwC Jersey Young Musician of the year award 2023. The Dawberts, a guitar-based trio from Guernsey who sing modern country pop and put their spin onto modern songs and The Jersey Bounce – the well-known big band of 13 people strong, finishing the evening to help us party until sunset.
Saturday’s concert features Mêli-Mêlo, (meaning ‘mish-mash’ in Jerriais) a Jerriais band and Jessica Lloyd Chays and her band – powerhouse vocals with pop covers, they will get the party started with their exciting, upbeat set and keep the dance floor full for the evening.
Tickets are available from the Jersey Opera House website. Prices are £10 for members, £15 for non-members and £5 for children. Please bring a picnic and leave nothing but your footprints. Parking is available at the site, but people are encouraged to car share, take public transport, walk, or cycle if they are able to do so.
