The Trust is excited to announce the release of two brand new visitor films screening at Le Moulin de Quetivel, Monday – Friday, 10am – 1pm. The ‘documentary’ focuses on the history of the building – from the mill’s origins in 1309 and its refurbishment during the Occupation era, to the fire that almost destroyed the building in 1969 and its subsequent repair by the National Trust for
Jersey. An invaluable reference tool for visitors, volunteers and visiting students, the documentary also showcases the mill’s ancient mechanism in action milling wheat into flour.
The ‘living history’ film, Au Moulin, is inspired by the Hawkins family who lived at the mill during the Victorian era: Miller, John Hawkins, his wife, Rebecca, and their twelve children aged 1 – 21 years. Featuring actors from Jersey Young Performing Arts, Au Moulin is intended to give visitors an appreciation and understanding of the social context of the mill and the challenges faced by the family who lived and worked on site. Records show that John Hawkins died of asthma and his wife died of exhaustion.
Au Moulin has been selected as the opening film at the 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival, screening at Jersey Arts Centre this Friday 24th May. The films were created by local filmmakers Tom and Annigna Kennedy from Little River Pictures
