The June 2019 arrivals figures are sharply down on a year before due to the decline in Sea arrivals (by almost one-third) while Air arrivals saw a very modest 1% increase.
This means that in the first half of 2019 Sea arrivals are down 15% whereas Air arrivals are up 4%, bring the combined tally to a 1% year-on-year decline.
Clearly this does not mean for certain that the Exit Survey for June will be equally negative, as sample proportions can vary, and different routes have a different propensity to be used by visitors and by residents.
London Southend was the air route with the strongest absolute growth for June, while Birmingham saw the largest decline. All sea routes except for visiting yachtsmen witnessed a decline in June.
